Founders’ vs. Today’s Bible

I’ll bet you can’t tell who said the following:

“You’ve been given insight into God’s kingdom. You know how it works. Not everybody has this gift, this insight; it hasn’t been given to them. Whenever someone has a ready heart for this, the insights and understandings flow freely. But if there is no readiness, any trace of receptivity soon disappears. That’s why I tell stories; to create readiness, to nudge people toward receptive insight. In their present state they can stare till doomsday and not see it, listen till they’re blue in the face and not get it.”

This is from a modern day Bible. I guess it depends on your training and the Bible you are used to whether or not you can tell this is said by Christ. It is from Matthew 13:10-13. Look it up. It’s much different from the King James version with which I am the most familiar. The new language does seem easier. I wonder if it conveys the same message. The early Bible used by the Founding Fathers was written, or translated for that day.

The language for their day was quite a bit different from ours. For example, James Madison said that the Constitution was written clearly so an eighth grader could easily understand it. Do you know of any eighth graders that have even read the Constitution, much less understand it?

Both are important for us to read and understand. For one our Nation’s existence is at risk. For the other our Eternal Life is the important criteria.
